The Conference Venue
This year, the Light Symposium welcomes its guests to the historic “Zeughaus” armoury of the Hanseatic City of Wismar.
Located in the historic old town, the old armoury is considered one of the most important examples of Swedish Baroque military architecture in Germany. The free-span ceiling construction without supporting pillars enabled the creation of a very large room with an area of 900 square metres, which was used to store weapons and equipment. After the Northern War, the building was due to be demolished, but the citizens of Wismar purchased it from the Swedes in 1718 to use as a warehouse. In 1754, the armoury was sold to the city. The listed building is now used as a library.
The large event hall on the first floor of the armoury, with its impressive, solid wooden ceiling structure, can accommodate 200 guests. The lounge in the attic serves as an exhibition space and meeting place during the conference.
The venue is within walking distance of all hotels in Wismar's Old Town.
Due to construction work in front of the Faculty of Architecture and Design building, the Light Symposium 2025 will not take place on the campus of Wismar University of Applied Sciences as usual.
Construction work is planned in front of the Faculty of Architecture and Design building on the Hochschule Wismar campus. For this reason, we have decided to hold the conference in the armoury of the Hanseatic City of Wismar.
