Inclusion – Exclusion

We come across the terms inclusion and exclusion every day, but how well do we really understand what lies behind them? At the reflektor Festival of Communication 2025, we will dive into the many facets of the topic.

What does inclusion mean?

Explanation of the term

Inclusion means that all people, regardless of individual differences such as origin, gender, abilities, social status, religion or other characteristics, can participate equally in all areas of society. Inclusion aims to enable all people to move around in society without barriers in all areas of life.

What is meant by exclusion?

Explanation of the term

Exclusion refers to the process or condition in which certain individuals or groups are excluded or marginalised from societal, social, economic or political processes. It means that people are denied access to resources, opportunities or participation in social life due to factors such as origin, gender, disability, social status or other characteristics.

Exclusion is often the result of discrimination, prejudice or structural inequalities that promote the exclusion of certain groups or individuals.
