The designer, who successfully completed her Master’s degree in Material Culture Design, had already developed innovative Materials from waste cellulose in her Master’s thesis, which are suitable for use in seating furniture, for example.
During the one-year funding period with the Caspar David Friedrich Scholarship from the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, worth 1,500 euros per month, she intends to further develop this concept. Marta Boniakivska will investigate how so-called waste can be transformed into functional, aesthetic and durable everyday objects. Her project challenges common throwaway habits and focuses on new material solutions that combine user experience with sustainability. Inspired by her artistic roots and the ‘Treasure not Trash’ philosophy, Boniakivska aims to re-evaluate resources and make design processes sustainable. Supervised by Prof. Achim Hack (Interior Architecture program) and Prof. Ulrike Rahe (Design program).
