After more than 45 years of working life, around 42 years at Hochschule Wismar, University of Applied Sciences, and 25 years in the current Faculty of Architecture and Designers building, House 7, economist Gabriele Thormann was given a festive retirement ceremony on Wednesday afternoon, 30th April 2025.
In August 1983, Thormann came to the Hanseatic City of Wismar from her home town of Magdeburg. On 1st September 1983, she began her employment contract at the then “Wismar University of Engineering”. Since then, she has experienced a whole piece of Hochschule Wismar's and faculty history.
Former department and faculty heads travelled to Thormann's farewell to thank her with words of appreciation for their former collaboration. Professional companions, former colleagues, graduates and students as well as friends and family members also came to the foyer of the faculty.
“I will miss, or not miss, the very structured daily routine with lots of appointments and enquiries. The students' ideas showed a constant development with new requirements. Sometimes very exhausting, but at least it kept me young”, Thormann reveals when asked.
Christina Berger will take over as Head of Faculty Administration at the Faculty of Architecture and Design from 1st May 2025. Gabriele Thormann is looking forward to spending more time with her family and travelling. We wish her all the best for her upcoming well-earned retirement and all her future plans.
