Sophia Martineck is no stranger to many students and teachers at our Faculty of Architecture and Design. She has held a teaching position since the summer semester and a substitute professorship in the "Communication Design and Media" degree programme since the winter semester 2019/2020. She has now been teaching "Artistic Design, in particular Drawing and Illustration" as a professor there since the beginning of this month.
Sophia Martineck studied visual communication with a focus on illustration at the Berlin University of the Arts and during this time spent several months at Hunter's College in New York and a year at the Liverpool School of Art and Design. Since 2007, the Berlin-based artist has been working as a freelance illustrator for German and international newspapers and magazines. She has worked professionally in New York, London, Brussels, Antwerp and Berlin, among other places, where her work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions. She has received awards including the Hans Meid Sponsorship Award and the Art Directors Club Young Guns Award.
