Welcome Prof. Philipp Quack

Quack was appointed by the Minister of Science Bettina Martin on 28th November 2024, but has already been representing the appointment area of the same name in the Architecture degree programme since March 2023 and has now officially taken up his professorship on 1st December.

The 41-year-old architect and urban planner studied at the Technical University of Berlin (TU) and at the School of Architecture at Lund University (LTH, Sweden). After graduating with a degree in engineering, he worked at the architectural firm Hascher Jehle Architektur in Berlin in competition and project management and at the German Archaeological Institute on the early Islamic necropolis in Aswan (Egypt) in the field of building research with design and restoration measures. Since 2013, he and Lydia Rintz have been running the joint Berlin architecture firm ARQ (Architekten Rintz und Quack GmbH), since 2015 as managing partners. He can look back on numerous competition successes, awards and exhibitions in building construction and urban development projects.

Building on several years of teaching experience at the Department of Urban Design at the Münster School of Architecture at Münster, University of Applied Sciences and Arts, and at the Institute for Design and Urban Planning at Leibniz University Hanover, he sees his teaching goals in the mediation and active participation in the transformation processes in urban and rural areas with a special focus on the sensitive handling of existing buildings and spaces.
