The graduate Samuel Lewek from the diploma program Communication Design and Media of the Faculty of Architecture ans Design at the Hochschule Wismar, University of Applied Sciences, has received recognition in the "Communication Design" category of the "aed neuland 2021" competition for young designers with his thesis "Im Trüben". His work deals with the social phenomenon of physical activities becoming superfluous. The thesis, which was defended in 2020, was supervised by Prof. Olaf Fippinger and Richard Stickel, Dipl.-Des. (FH).
In April 2021, the 20-member independent jury, including a large number of well-known protagonists of the German-speaking design scene, decided on 508 submissions from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Russia, Belarus and Mexico. In each of the five categories "Architecture + Engineering", "Exhibition Design + Interior Design", "Product Design", "Communication Design" and "Interaction Design", one Gold was awarded, up to four Silver as well as multiple recognitions. After the jury meeting already took place online, the award ceremony in mid-June 2021 also took place digitally. This was the eighth time that the international "aed neuland 2021" competition for young designers, supported by the Karl Schlecht Foundation, was held.
