On Tuesday, 8 March 2022, Bachelor's and Master's students from the architecture course of the Faculty of Architecture and Design at Hochschule Wismar, University of Applied Sciences, presented their designs for the Haus des Gastes in the Baltic Sea resort of Dahme to a jury of several members.
From the 13 designs submitted, Mayor Dieter Knoll and employees of the Dahme municipal administration, with the advisory help of Prof. Martin Wollensak, selected the most convincing three.
Johannes Hansen (1st place with a prize money of 1000 Euros), Joe Gerrit Böhme (2nd place with a prize money of 800 Euros) as well as Fabian Kempf and Finn-Ole Moehl (3rd place with a prize money of 450 Euros each) took the first three places. The other designs were rewarded with purchases (endowed with 150 euros each). These included works by Brennda Metti R Sunda, Yuto Kuroki, Marie Michalski, Meral Tabakhna, Ola Abubaker Idris Mohamed, Omar Amcha, Swaythaa Balasubramanian, Tom Eric Jeworutzki, Wuttipong Khamkawe.
Located directly on the beach promenade and built in the 1960s, the Haus des Gastes in Dahme served for a long time as the headquarters of the spa administration and as a meeting place for the community. Now, renovation work or the implementation of other concepts for the building are pending. Taking into account the existing building and fire protection, ideas for new usage concepts were developed by the students in the winter semester 2021/22. The project was supervised by Prof. Martin Wollensak.
