The task was to design buildings for a residential care facility for the elderly (approximately 12 residents) and a day care center for the elderly (approximately 28 people) on the island of Poel, in the district of Niendorf. The focus was on optimizing the living environment for people with dementia.

On Friday, 17th April 2026, the winners were announced during the 21. Norddeutschen Holzbautage (21st North German Timber Construction Days 2026). Around 25 of our architecture students from the bachelor’s and master’s programs participated, supervised by Prof. Dieter Blome and Prof. Martin Wollensak. The competition was sponsored by the private, medium-sized plant breeding company Norddeutsche Pflanzenzucht Hans-Georg Lembke KG (NPZ), represented by Sabine Brauer, and organized by our Architecture program. A total of 2,700 euros in prize money was awarded. The four-member jury consisted of Cort Berner (civil engineer, freelance construction manager), Vanessa Hinck (NPZ), Sabine Brauer (NPZ), and Prof. Martin Wollensak.
