1st place for architecture student Sven Sander

Architecture student Sven Sander has prepared film and photo material for presentation in preparation for the award ceremony.

Master's student Sven Sander from the architecture course of the Faculty of Architecture and Design at the Hochschule Wismar, University of Applied Sciences and Arts and student Serafin Lindau from Leibniz University Hanover both won first prize in the "Conceptual Working 2020.21" competition for young designers organised by the Bundesverband der Kalksandsteinindustrie e.V. (Federal Association of the Sand Lime Brick Industry), and with it 2,500 euros and a paid internship. Sven Sander's submitted design "Symbiosis Green" was supervised by Prof. Dr. Beate Niemann. Prof. Dr. Florian Arnd Hennemeyer was also present at the award ceremony as head of the architecture course.

On Wednesday, 11th November 2021, the winners were announced during the gala of the Bundesverband der Kalksandsteinindustrie e.V. in Hanover. According to the published jury minutes, the seven-member jury of architects and board members of the Bundesverband Kalksandsteinindustrie e.V. awarded two first and two fourth places. The fourth places, endowed with 500 euros, went to two students from the Technical University of Berlin and another student from Hanover. A short film produced in advance about the designer, the lecturer and the design additionally explained the winning works to the audience during the gala.

The subject of the competition was an area of around 22,000 square metres in the Vahrenwald-List district of Hanover, for which an urban development structure was to be developed with a focus on work, leisure and living. Work by students from German universities that was developed during their architecture studies or during the final phase of their studies could be submitted.

Prof. Achim Hack accompanied Sven Sander on behalf of the Bundesverband Kalksandsteinindustire e.V. for the film, video and sound recordings, which were shown during the award ceremony.
