Prof. Bernd Dietrich Blome was appointed on 28th April 2025 by State Secretary Susanne Bowen at the Ministry of Science, Culture, Federal and European Affairs in Schwerin. The 44-year-old architect's area of expertise is ‘building technology, climate-friendly architecture’. He teaches Architecture at the Faculty of Architecture and Design at Hochschule Wismar, University of Applied Sciences. Blome has been working as a substitute professor at the Faculty of Design since 1st September 2023, winter semester 2023/24. Congratulations!

Blome is an architect and energy consultant with a degree from Darmstadt Technical University (TU) and a period of study abroad at the Instituto Superior Técnico in Lisbon. His professional career has taken him to the Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg (TUHH), the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences, the TU Darmstadt, the Hesse State Energy Agency and the Hesse State Construction and Real Estate Agency (LBIH), where, as sustainability coordinator, he played a key role in achieving the goal of a CO₂-free state administration. In addition, after many years of freelance work, he has been running the „studioBLOME” office in Darmstadt since 2021, where he leads an interdisciplinary team of architects, energy consultants and sustainability coordinators.

One focus of his research activity is the development of innovative concepts for the transformation of existing buildings and for climate-friendly and resource-efficient urban development.

„In my teaching, I combine practical experience in planning, research and consulting with the teaching of skills in the areas of climate-friendly construction, energy building assessment and life cycle analysis. My goal is to sensitise students to the responsible use of existing buildings and sustainable technology concepts, as well as to teach them practical methods for implementing resource-efficient urban development processes”, says Blome.
