The search for the cultural context begins with the examination of artificial, mostly fragmentary finds from historical epochs. The clarification of functions or the classification in functional contexts often proves difficult, since many sequences of action and motifs, results of social interactions, can no longer be fully represented by comparison with today. We have before us an object whose purpose and destiny means entering hypothetical territory. But it reveals an elementary semantic structure which, untouched by temporal reference and subject only to the action of physical laws, suggests purposefulness in its construction, choice of materials and workmanship ....
