In addition to the already obvious consequences for the global ecosystem, the effects of growing imbalances in the distribution of raw materials and also responsibilities are leading to conflicts, the solutions to which lie in a strict review of previous ideas of economic growth and production processes. The development and design of sustainable products will play a special role. This is not only about the optimum of utilitarian or aesthetic functions - the requirement of consistent ecological sustainability demands a holistic consideration of the factors influencing product development, such as the materials involved, energy expenditure, technologies, but also consumer behaviour.

Innovation or re-design. The re-evaluation of everyday products and concepts under the above-mentioned aspects should in principle be able to link formal aesthetic requirements to the necessity of ecological principles.
